Difference Mercedes-Benz E-Class Models Available

As mentioned, the official E-Class legacy kicks off in 1993 when Mercedes-Benz first began utilizing that nameplate for its executive sedan. That first model was available as a 4-door saloon, 5-door estate, 2-doour coupe, 2-door convertible and even a 6-door limousine, with both petrol and diesel powertrains available. It was replaced in 1996 by the second generation of the model, which cut back its offerings in a big way to only provide a traditional 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon, still offering both standard gas and diesel powerplants.

In 2003, the third generation came into play, keeping up the sedan/station wagon and gas/diesel traditions, though throwing a compressed natural gas option into the mix as well. 2010, then, saw the introduction of the fourth generation E-Class, this time switching things up to be offered as a saloon, estate, coupe and convertible, with traditional gas, diesel and even turbocharged powertrain options. Many of these different models had special edition trim levels and variants, but we’d be here all day if we talked about each one.

So let’s focus on the fifth and current generation, which just kicked off for the 2017 model year. Available as a 4-door saloon, 5-door estate, 2-door coupe and 2-door convertible as standard body styles, it also had several variants. These include the All-Terrain, the E 300, E 350, E 400, E 400 Wagon, E 450, E 350e Plug-in Hybrid and a host of high-performance AMG models.
