As Gunther Werks' restorations of coupe’s was limited to 25 examples, so too Speedster restorations will be limited to only 25 unique examples. Production of the vehicle has now started, as production of 25 Coupe restorations has just concluded.
To initiate the restoration process, Gunther Werks uses a convertible as a foundation and restores the chassis to accommodate the heightened performance. Unlike the typical reduction of torsional rigidity that comes with removing the roof, Gunther Werks has taken significant measures to prevent such side effects. The chassis restoration process begins by revamping the factory components that our coupes also undergo, but with additional enhancements. Upgrades are added to the space previously occupied by the rear seat compartment of the coupe, and a new roll cage and roll hoop are integrated to provide support for the new tonneau cover. These measures not only enhance occupant safety but also contribute to further strengthening the chassis.
Our 4.0-liter has been meticulously developed by Rothsport from Oregon to our specifications, to create the ultimate naturally aspirated flat-six. The original crank case is starting point for all of our engines, from there the Mahle pistons to the twin map Motec Engine management, coil over plug ignition, individual throttle bodies, billet crankshaft, rods & barrels, no moving part of the engine is left untouched.
The net result is: a 7800 rpm redline, 330lbs feet of torque, and 430+ horsepower.
Getrag G50
The original Getrag G50 is retained but rebuilt with completely bespoke custom ratios offering a superior balance between performance, refinement & touring. The shift linkage is upgraded, a single mass mid-weight flywheel and uprated single-plate clutch are installed, as is a new lower ratio limited slip differential featuring carbon clutches.
< Head Lights & Tail Lights >
At the front a fully bespoke headlight system was developed to take advantage of the latest in LED technology. The entire lighting bucket is constructed from a combination of lightweight forged T-6061 aluminum components and carbon fiber to accommodate the larger Bi-LED projectors and active daytime running lights. The assembly is encased in a beautiful hand-polished aerospace grade glass housing, taking inspiration from the original design elements.
