ICON A5 Aircraft Flying in the Bahamas

By now, you’re probably aware of the fact that Prestige Imports has teamed up with ICON Aircraft to add another type of travel to our long list of offerings. Not ones to be restricted by the road, or now even by the water, you can now purchase a vehicle that you can operate through the air right here in North Miami Beach FL. Currently, we’re providing the Light Sport Aircraft the ICON A5, the first mainstream sport aircraft on the market.

The ICON A5, and really ICON as a whole, was created in response to what has been one of the biggest changes to aviation regulation in over five decades. The FAA – Federal Aviation Administration – created a new segment of personal aircraft really tailored to the fun, sporty flying. The ICON A5 is the perfect aircraft to slide into that segment.

Technical Specifications & Innovative Features of the ICON A5

Let’s start with some of the important technical specifications that make the ICON A5 the aircraft that it is. The aircraft has two seats with a maximum weight of 1,510 pounds. It has a 20-gallon fuel tank, can hit a maximum speed of 110 miles per hour, has a range of 450 miles, a Rotax 912 engine that can generate 100 horsepower and a takeoff/landing distance of 500-1,000 feet at sea level. The aircraft is 23’ long, 8.1’ wide and has a wingspan of 34.8’.

While those numbers give you the nitty gritty, let’s dive into some of the exciting features that the ICON A5 provides. Several features went into its design to make it as convenient and versatile as possible, including folding wings, Seawings™ that allow you and your passenger to access the cockpit easily, retractable landing gear, landing and taxi lights and you can even opt for a custom aircraft towing trailer.

When it comes to performance, you’ll be excited to hear that the ICON A5 was designed to be amphibious, meaning you can takeoff or land both in the water and on dry land, its airframe was designed with high-strength, lightweight carbon fiber and you can operate the plane on either automotive or aviation fuel. On the inside, the cockpit adopts a design not unlike those you’ll see in some of our sports cars. It also features a Garmin 796 GPS moving map, a canopy that both protects from UV rays and provides high visibility, as well as removable side windows.

There are also a host of safety features provided in the ICON A5 Aircraft, such as its Spin-Resistant Airframe, its Wing Angle of Attack indicator and its Complete Airplane Parachute among others. Overall, this aircraft is pretty incredible, and we’d be happy to see you flying one here in the Miami area. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us with any inquiries.
