In 2020, Tesla introduced the world to its fifth vehicle, the Model Y. It was the second vehicle to be based on the Model 3 sedan platform, sharing about 75% of its parts with that model, but providing an entirely different package. In truth, the Tesla Model Y is a compact crossover utility vehicle rather than a sedan, which also makes it the second utility vehicle made by the company. The all-electric 5-door CUV has only been on the road a couple of years, which is why we’re always excited to see used versions in our showroom here in North Miami Beach FL.
Considering its relatively short lifespan up until now, there haven’t been too many variants for the Model Y. However, it is available with two different batteries, and three different powertrains. The batteries are designated as Standard Range and Long Range. The Standard Range Model Y is only available with a rear-wheel drivetrain. It has a range of 244 miles and can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds.
The Long Range Model Y is available with an all-wheel drivetrain, with its range being boosted up to 326 miles and its acceleration improved to 4.8 seconds. You can even opt for a software upgrade which further reduces this time to 4.2 seconds. In addition, the Long Range model is available as a Performance variant. This reduces the range to 303 miles, but boosts acceleration even more, enabling a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 s.
In addition, a Long Range RWD model was planned but seems to have been canceled for now. It was scheduled for release in the second half of 2020 but has yet to hit the road. The global pandemic likely had an effect on its production. However, if you think you might be interested in any of the other Tesla Model Y trim levels, be sure to check out our inventory.
