2018 BMW M5 Specs and Release Date\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Perhaps no two words are more synonymous with exotic automotive power\u00a0than “German Engineering.” Between Mercedes-Benz,\u00a0BMW, and Porsche, Germany’s automobile manufacturing is the standard for the execution of power, reliability and ingenuity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following\u00a0their reputation,\u00a0the BMW M5 shouldn’t really be a surprise to anybody. The long-awaited automobile was announced in full yesterday and presents a range of incredible features for a 4-door,\u00a0high-performance sedan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A Powerful Engine and Competent Drivetrain\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The 2018\u00a0M5 is the first non-SUV,\u00a0M-Series vehicle from BMW to feature All-Wheel Drive. Each one of the four wheels will receive 600 horsepower\u00a0and 553\u00a0lb-ft.\u00a0of torque\u00a0from the 4.4 L\u00a0V8 bi-turbo engine with M\u00a0Twin Power\u00a0Turbo technology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The inclusion of AWD gives the 2018 BMW M5 a 0-60 acceleration time of 3.2s. Peak torque occurs at 1,800 RPM and sustains through about 5,700 RPM. When torque begins to drop off, the horsepower hits peak allowing for rapid, high-RPM overtaking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The speed is limited by an onboard governor to 155 mph, racing and speed trials should reveal the M5 to be capable of much higher speeds, perhaps even scratching the surface of 200 mph.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s really,\u00a0really\u00a0powerful.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Real Switching to RWD\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

BMW\u00a0M purists who\u00a0feel disappointed by the move away from a rear-wheel drivetrain can take heart. It’s still there. The 2018 BMW features the M\u00a0xDrive\u00a0transmission which gives drivers a choice between 4WD, 4WD Sport (more power sent to the rear wheels), and RWD.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although other manufacturers have included gimmicky “drift mode” switching to 2WD, the 2018 BMW M5 is the first to provide the full experience. By entirely disconnecting the front axle, the M5\u00a0won’t\u00a0re-engage 4WD until the driver chooses, or the car is restarted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2018 BMW M5 Release\u00a0Date\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n
