At the North American International Auto Show in 2015, Ford<\/a> introduced fans to an incredible reimagining of one of their most iconic performance vehicles, the Ford GT, nearly 50 years after the GT40 won the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Things have been slow since its initial unveiling, but we finally have some news about when the high-performance sports car will be available. Ford has stated that it plans on having the Ford GT ready for wide consumer consumption by 2020, despite production having started late last year. 2017 and 2018 models will be reserved for select buyers, while 2019 vehicles will be reserved for reserved buyers that were passed over in the initial selection.<\/p>\n

What We Already Know About the Ford GT<\/h3>\n

One thing we know for certain is that the new Ford GT picks up on its pedigree of success, as it won its class in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans much like the original model did in \u201966. Looking at the incredibly sporty, modern vehicle and knowing its performance success, you might assume it will be powered by some massive V12 engine but in actuality it\u2019s hiding a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 under its hood, a similar engine to what you might find in other vehicles on the lineup. Despite being smaller than you might\u2019ve expected, it does offer an impressive 647 horsepower.<\/p>\n
